About The Role

Milestone Infrastructure, part of M Group Services, are looking for part time HGV Cat C (Class 2) drivers, with CPC, to work on the Somerset Highways Maintenance contract as Winter Maintenance drivers. The drivers will be appointed on a temporary contract to cover the Winter Maintenance season from November 2022 until April 2023. We are looking for suitable candidates to work on a zero-hour contract basis.

Location – Yeovil, Bridgwater, Glastonbury, Frome

Varied hours per week

Your duties & responsibilities will be:

  • To drive a Winter Maintenance Gritting Vehicle for the duration of the winter maintenance season, being allocated to a rota within the Somerset area.
  • To be on standby alternate weeks i.e. one week on standby followed by one week off throughout the winter maintenance season.
  • To undertake the gritting of the roads on your allocated route and all the associated activities required to deliver the Winter Service.

We are looking for:

  • A full UK driving licence with HGV Class 2 (category C) entitlement and a full CPC is essential
  • A valid Winter Maintenance qualification or experience. If, however, training is required, training for the City and Guilds qualification will be arranged for September/October 2022 and the above-mentioned temporary contract will be extended to cover this
  • The ability to get to one of the following depots Yeovil, Bridgwater, Glastonbury, Frome within 1 hours’ notice

Shifts and Pay Rates:

The Winter Maintenance Season will commence on the 1st November 2022 and will finish on the  April2022. Drivers must commit to being on standby alternate weeks for the duration of the service. A week starts at 07.45 am on the Friday and finishes at 07.45am the following Friday. When you are on Standby, you can be called out at anytime to undertake a grit run.

Callouts for WINTER SERVICE will be paid at a minimum of 3.5 hours @ £15 per hour Monday to Saturday and £19.93 per hour on Sunday and Bank Holidays.

Standby will be at £201.75 / week.
