About the Role

Based in Newcastle, the Project Manager will be responsible for planning and managing medium-to large sized business projects, including mobilisations, demobilisations and business change programmes (and potentially smaller business improvement projects), possibly with high-profile impact and high-risk dependencies.  


Key Responsibilities

  • The projects objectives are delivered
  •  Projects are completed on time and within budget 
  • The needs of key Stakeholders are met

Projects may involve working with and/or delivering to both internal and/or external clients and the Project Manager may be expected to work alongside external consultants or Project Managers to ensure deliverables are met.

More specifically your duties will include:

  • Working with the Project Sponsor to agree project objectives and delivery timescales
  • Ensuring that work streams are planned and executed effectively, delivering on schedule and on budget
  • Establishing and maintaining appropriate project, quality, change control and risk management processes
  • Monitoring and controlling both revenue and capital costs against the project budget
  • Managing the expectations of all key project stakeholders
  • Facilitating effective communications between a broad range of wider stakeholders
  • Supporting and mentoring less experienced members of the team
  • Escalating issues or concerns to the Project Sponsor and reporting progress to the Project Steering Group 

Your duties may also include:

  • Leading business process improvement projects
  •  Undertaking initial process/business analysis to accurately define the problem, scope the project and assess the level of benefit
  • Coordinating workshops to better understand key issues and potential solutions
  • Running process improvement trials to assess the effectiveness of potential solutions and recommending specific courses of action as a result
  • Ensuring that changes are implemented and controlled and the intended benefit is delivered

Work Experience:

  • Previous experience in a Project Manager role requiring the coordination of multiple work streams
  •  Experience of managing projects in a range of different organisations and/or market sectors
  • Thorough understanding of the project management process and experience of working with formal project methodologies (eg APM PRINCE 2)
  • Experience of projects that have required significant business change management
  • Experience of managing complex and senior stakeholder interactions
  • Clear understanding and use of risk and issue management and escalation processes and ability to identify issues and take corrective action
  • Previous accountability for ensuring all required controls and documentation are created, maintained and progress reported to wider project/programme Boards

Desirable skills/qualifications/work experience:

  • Experience of working in a Lean Six Sigma environment and leading specific improvement projects
  • Formal Lean Six Sigma accreditation (Green Belt or Black Belt)
  • Formal project management accreditation (eg PMI PMP, IPMA Level C, PRINCE2 Practitioner)
